LEAGUE FOOTBALL

WIN FOR BRUNNER

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 11. A set of lively backs wno took chances and were very r st ot in ing gave the Brunner (West Coast) Rugby League team a big win against Woolston- Hollywood, by 32 P t° 5 at Bradford Park on Satin day. Some of the tries were of real meut, brilliant passing runs with a fast change of direction tearing.big hole* in the Woolston defence. C. Mountford, the West Coast champion was at his very best. Against defence which was not too strong, Mountfold was wonderful. D. Dickson and J. Williams sent him good passes ana, whenever he had a chance Mountlord was through in a flash, and many times gained 40 yards. At centre, J. Brown was also good. He took all sorts of passes well and crashed determinedly into and through, the defence. A. Barnard, on a wing, was another strong runner. In the loose, Brunner had an advantage because of the work of R. Hobbs, whose tireless runs upset the Woolston backs. A. Mclnnes was also a good worker. In the first half Mountford (3), Brown, Hobbs and Barnard scored for Brunner, Williams converting four. Brunner appeared to ease up when against the wind and scored bnly twice in the second spell, Barnard and Brown crossing. Neither was converted. Walker scored a good trv for Wcaiston after selling a

dummy in a passing run. Guy converted. 1 f Blackball (West Coast) and Canterbury third grade representatives played a curtain-raiser with the score 8-all. R. Hayes and J. Ross scored for Blackball, A O’Donnell converting one. M. Pickard and L. Knight scored for Canterbury, Ockwell converting one.
