AWARDS TO AIRMEN.
WELLINGTON? June 15
For the part they played in a difficult and hazardous mine-laying mission carried out by' Mosquito crews last month in face of intense anti-aircraft fire, two New Zealand airmen already decorated for gallantry have received higher awards. They" are Acting-Wing Commander Stephen Delaney Watts, D.F.C.. of Morrinsville, who received the D. 5.0.. and Acting-Squadron Leader James Phillip Farrow, D.F.M.. of Gisborne, who received the D.F.C.
“One night last month several Mosquito crews were detailed for a difficult and' dangerous mine-laying mission.” says the citation accompanying each of the awards. “This operation called for a high standard of skill and accuracy. In face of intense anti-aircraft fire their attack was pressed home with great precision from a low level. That complete success was achieved in spite of the many hazards is a high tribute to the calm courage and iron determination shown by Wing Commander Watts, and Squadron Leader Farrow, who were members of the crews engaged on this operation.”
