MONTHLY MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.! HOKITIKA, May 17. The Hokitika Borough Council met last evening. Present: Mr A. K- tsicock (Mayor), Crs. W. H> T ® to E. W. Heenan, E. S. Ross, K. Aitken, C, Caliari, S .C. Havll, T. W. Duff. The Treasurer’s report showed ieceints £531/16/8, expenditure £7lB 12/8. Accounts amounaing to £ iuj 3/- were pased for payment. , The Abattoir report, stated: btocK slaughtered for the month of Apiil amounted to 37 cows,. 27 heifers, o( bullocks, 168 sheep, 70 lambs, 9 mgs. 7 calves. Condemned, 2 cows. Receipts for the month amounted to £B6/19/10. Fees for corresponding month last year were £96718/-. The foreman’s report was react ana approved. . „ The sexton’s report included lour interments during the month. Cr. Stopforth reported on clearing work by the bulldozer at the Cemetery in breaking in new land. Correspondence included: — The Medical Officer of Health advised that the analysis of the sample of water 'taken from tfie Hokitika Reservoir on. March 27, 1944, shows that the water is satisfactory. The Secretary of the Hokitika Beautifying Society applied for permission to plant 44 (lowering cherry trees in Sale Street between Stafford Street and .Gibson Quay, the trees to be planted in rows, one on either side and along the centre of the existing grass lawns. —Approved, subject to the Council’s supervision. Mr W. Campbell, Fitzherbert St., applied for permission to remove the mound which lies on the footpath adjoining the front of his property, as he desires to erect a four-foot concrete fence.—Approved. Mr K. Wallace, Hampden Street, applied for permission to instal a septic tank.—Granted, according to usual conditions. Mr Frank E. Lewis Fitzherbert Street, applied for permission to instal a septic tank.—Granted, according to usual conditions. Miss R Houndie, Hampden Street, asked that a downpipe be installed in the pipe drain at the frontage of her property to dispose of surface water, which is apt to flood the footpath.—Approved. The Secretary of Municipal Association, Wellington, advised that the National Butchers’ Executive which is co-operating with the Government in regard to thet rationing of meat, unanimously decided that complete control of rationing cannot be achieved without weighing of all meat at the killing point, and the Rationing _ Controller has requested the Municipal Association to ask its Abattoir members to have weighing facilities installed at the Abattoirs. The Returning Officer of the Borough of Hokitika notifying that on the 15th May, 1944, in pursuance of Section 11 of the Local Elections and Foils Act, 1925, he declared Albert Richard Elcock of Hokitika to be duly elected Mayor of the Borough for the ensuing term.—-Member’s congratulated Mr. Elcock on his re-election and extended their best wishes to him and to Mrs. Elcock. Mr. Elcock expressed his appreciation of the co-operation from the members of the Council and rhe- staff.
