NATIONAL WAR SAVINGS
WESTLAND’S QUOTA
More than a third of last week s national war savings deposits on the West Coast came from Brunnerton, where investments totalled £267. The district’s quota is £5O. Only one other office, Blackball, reported investments in excess of. the quota, the surplus in this case being £l/14/-. A little more than a week remains until the close of the financial year. Greymouth, Hokitika, and Blackball have already passed their respective quotas, but seven postal districts are still short of their targets. Up to hist Saturday, the total amount invested in Westland since April 1, 1943, was £57,814, a surplus of £2434 above the quota. Deposits at Greymouth totalled £30,634, an excess of £4,790 above the district’s quota. Investments at Hokitika amounted to £11,278, or £2,438 more than the quota. The Blackball district was required to find £2,704 for the year, and up to last Saturday investments totalled £3,731, an excess of £1,027. Otira reduced its deficiency by £6/10/-, leaving the district £lO/11/- below its quota requirements. Ross still requires £l9O to fill its quota, only £lO/16/- corning in since the previous week. Quota deficiencies, after taking into account investments made last week, are:—Runanga, £1,733 16/-; Reefton, £1,249; Waiuta, £987; Brunnerton, £908; and Kumara, £742.
A total of £5,821 is needed from the seven offices where quotas have not been filled in order that a full response can be claimed for the war savings scheme, during the last 12 months.
