S. AMERICAN REPUBLICS

BOLIVIAN. RESIGNATIONS. BUENOS AIRES, February 12. According to reports from La Paz. three members of the Bolivian Government. including the Minister of the Interior (Senor Alberto Taborsia) have resigned. The Associated Press says the resignations are interpreted as a move by the Bolivian Government to eject pro-Axis elements which other American Republics found objectionable and bid for recognition by the United States. Senor Taborga, who was strongly pro-Axis, has been replaced by Lieu-tenant-Colonel Alfrade Pachecho who is regarded as definitely pro-’ Allied. The Minister of Agriculture fSenor Carol S. Montenegro) and the Governmental Secretary (Senor Augusto Cespides), both bitter foes of “Yankee Imperialism,” have also resigned. ARGENTINA AND ALLIES. NEW YORK, February 12. An indirect charge that Britain and the United States were engaged in espionage activities in Argentina was made by the Presidential Secretary (Colonel Gonzalez), at a Press conference, reports the Buenos Aires correspondent of the “New York Herald-Tribune.” Colonel Gonzalez said Argentina had been converted into the world espionage centre where spies of all belligerent coun-’ i tries were active.

Elaborating on Nazi espionage activities, Colonel Gonzalez said the number of spy arrests had reached alarming proportions.
