The Justice Department has announced that President Roosevelt has granted an unconditional pardon to Lieutenant-General Richardson, of Hawaii, who was cited for contempt of Court for refusing to comply with, a writ of Habeas Corpus in August last.
As Military Governor of Hawaii, General Richardson was fined 5000 dollars on August 26 for contempt of Court, and the next day he issued a general order positively" banning any further action in the case. He was held for contempt for failure to. produce in Court two United States citizens of German - extraction who had been interned since the attack on Pearl Harbour, and who had issued, writs of Habeas Corpus. The Acting-? Secretary for War said General Richardson was acting under Army orders and that the Judge’s conclusions were’ wrong.
