MINING Ngahere return for the four weeks ending January 21 was 3130 z from 171,915 yards worked in 409 hours. The Snowy River dredge return this week was 1531 ounces in 258 hours from 57,500 yards. Whilst the demand for beef was on a pa" with present market values, cattle, excepting choice lines anu good colours, attracted little alien ■ tion, no doubt due to the effects in certain districts of the prolonged spell of dry weather. WAIRARAPA RAM FAIR MASTERTON, January 21. The highest, price for Southdowns at the Wairarapa Stud Breeders’ rain fair yesterday was 450 guineas paid for a ram sold on behalf of Mr. R. M. Pei'ry. It was purchased by the Oakley Stud, Hatuma. Best price for Romneys was 560gns. secured for a ram sold on behalf of McDonald Bros, to the Robertson Estate, Kelso. Other high Romney prices were 530gns. and 500gns.
