ARGENTINA’S CENSORSHIP
BUENOS AIRES, January 6
An Argentine Government decree imposes drastic control of the Press and foreign correspondents. It prohibits the publication of news or comment deemed to be contrary to the national interest, makes the publication of Government communiques and information obligatory, and authorises the Government to withdraw from circulation any publication violating the decree.
PROFITEERS IMPRISONED
SUVA. Jan. 7
An Indian wholesale storekeeper, P. J. Patel, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of £4OO, in default a further six months’ imprisonment on a charge of selling textile piece goods at excessive prices. His excess profit was £7B. Tilsibhai, for a similar offence,, was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment and a fine of £3OO, in default a further three months’ imprisonment. The excess profits in this case were £l4O.
