A London cablegram announced that Prince Henry of Pless, who the Honie Secretary released from an internment camp, has become a private in the British Army.
The death has occurred at Berne of the famous ophthalmic surgeon, Professoi' Alfred Vogt, who operated on the President of Eire (Mi’ c]e Valera) in 1936.
Mr. A. T. Brears and Mr. F. J. Brosnahan, of the traffic staff, Railways Department, Christchurch, have been transferred to Greymouth and will arrive by to-day’s express.
A Wellington Press Association telegram to-day, announced the death of Mr. Andrew Duncan Thomson, former Magistrate, and Assistant Public Service Commissionex’ from 1913 to 1920.—P.A.
A cablegram from the New Zealand Press Assn’s special correspondent in London announces the promotion of C. G. Martin, R.N.Z.N.V.R., of Greymouth, to the rank of Lieutenant.
The death was announced to-day from Dunedin of Colonel George Barclay. He was born in 1866. He served in ‘the last war. He was formerly Grand Secretary of N.Z. Grand Lodge of Freemasons.
The Prime Minister- (Mr. Fraser) who has been on the sick list for about nine weeks, attended at his office in Parliament House to-day. Callers this morning included Mr. T. D’Alton, the recently arrived Australian High Commissionex' to New Zealand. —P.A.

The death has occurred at Hokitika of Mrs. Emma Johnstone, a native of Stafford, aged 69 years. Mrs. Johnstone, who was a member of the Merewether family, and was predeceased by her husband, leaves three sons, Mr. P. Shannon and Mr. J. Johnstone (Hokitika) and Mr. F. Johnstone (overseas), one brother, Mr. J. Merewether (Stafford), and three sisters, Mrs. G. Taylor (Wellington), Mrs. E. Batty (Blenheim), and Mrs. T. Mathers (Sydney).
