WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
FEDERATION MEETING The half-yearly meeting the West Coast Federation of Women’s Institutes was held at the Lyceum Hall, yesterday, when the President, Mrs Johnson, presided over an attendance of over 40 delegates. The principal guest was Mrs H. Barnicoat, Dominion President. A motion of condolence was passed with the relations of the late Mrs Bassett. Mrs Taylor presented a report on the Council’s activities and Mrs Longstaff presented the financial statement.—Both were adopted. The President reported on the proceedings at the Dominion conference and was accorded a vote of thanks.
The aspirations were read by Mrs Rankin, when the meeting resumed after the luncheon adjournment. A remit from the Greymouth Institute, “that a shelter be erected at the Hospital bus stop, that it be called the Mcßrearty Memorial, and that the Mcßrearty Memorial moneys, which were raised some years ago, be used for the shelter,” was carried. A committee was formed to interview the trustees of the fund.
A remit from the Runanga Institute, “that clothing and material for babies’ layettes be made more readily available and cheaper to expectant mothers,” was carried. Mrs Barnicoat addressed the delegates and was accorded a vote of thanks. She was presented with a spray by Mrs Johnson. Alter afternoon tea had been served, a play “In the Blackout” was presented by the Blaketown Drama Circle, and Mrs Baty contributed a song.
