U.S.A. SOLDIERS’ MUTINY
SHOOTINGS IN DEVON RESORT (Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15. Fourteen American soldiers were charged with mutiny at an American court-martial at Paignton, Devon, to-day. They were also charged with shooting, with intent to murder two American police sergeants and others in a square of the town; with rioting and unlawfully taking firearms and with making inflammatory statements. , The prosecution said that on September 26 a group of soldiers, including the accused, armed themselves, obtained ammunition and marched to the Market Square .within a few yards of some military police. Firing started and two of the police were wounded. There was a crowd in the square which immediately dispersed. A witness said there were no British soldiers in the group.
