Repeal was the result of big monied interests contributing to wholesale and widespread advertising. The Wickersham Commission, appointed by President Hoover, reported that prohibition had “increased production, increased efficiency, increased savings and decreased demands upon charitable and social agencies”. Under prohibition in U.S.A, drunkenness decreased 77 cent., alcoholic insanity decreased 66 per cent., drinkproduced crime decreased 70 per cent.
