HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING [OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA. Sept. 21. The Hokitika Borough Council met yesterday, present: The Mayor (Mr. A. R. Elcock), Crs. T. AV. Duff, G. Heinz, C. Caliari, D. P. Stuart, L. S. Ross, K. Aitken, W. H. Stopl'orth and E. W. Heenan. A deputation from the Hokitika Business Men’s Association submitted a plan for the numbering of houses in Hokitika. —On the motion of Cr. Ross the Town Clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps Io have the work carried out. The Finance Statement showed: Receipts £4,952/14/1; expenditure £1,557/2/6. Accounts amounting to £lBOl/16/8 were passed for payment.

Abattoirs Report: Stock slaughtered in August amounted to 41 cows, 37 heifers, 29 bullocks, 30 sheep. 14 calves. Condemned: One cow. Fees collected for month amounted to £6l 4/-.

The Foreman’s Report was approved.

The Sexton reported five interments during August and on the work carried out at the cemetery. Cpuncillors reported on .the inspection of the County gravel [.’rusher. — The offer was declined. The Valuer’s report on. the Council reserves at Koiterangi was approved, and -the clerk authorised to send the necessary notices. Correspondence included: From, the Mayor of Christchurch notifying his intention to call a conference of local bodies’ representatives in the South Island. —The Mayor appointed to attend with power to substitute. Mr. F. Groufsky, junr., asked that supply of pit gravel which was authorised by the Council some time ago be supplied as it is urgently required. —Received and referred to Foreman.

Addisons, application . for permission to erect a bicycle rest on the pavement outside their premises in Hamilton Street.—Approved. Elizabeth Cameron. lessee, of Municipal Reserve No. 476 (C/T 28/222) application to surrender existing lease No. 2295 and in lieu thereof to issue a new lease for the whole of the land to the Sisters of Mercy, Convent, Hokitika, such new lease to be granted under section 5, sub-section (e) of the Public Bodies Beases Act, 1908, -and the First Schedule thereto tor the balance of the unexpired term of the original lease namely, October 30, 1949. The new lease to commence on April 30, 1943.—Approved. Messrs Park, Murdoch and James (as agent for John Ralph Taylor) application Jo sub-divide section 186 and part reserve 439 (Railway Hotel nroperty) from the balance of the land. —Consent granted. Hokitika Beautifying Association suggested a round-table discussion with the Council.— The Reserves Committee was appointed to meet the .Association and report to the Council.
