A London cablegram announced the death of the Earl of Bathurst, at the age of 79.

A London cablegram stated that one of the outstanding New Zealanders in the coastal forces, the twenty-two-year-old Sub-Lieutenant J. G. MacDonald of Wellington, who was recently awarded the Bar to the D.S.C., has been promoted Lieutenant and appointed acting senior officer of his flotilla, during the sickness of the present holder. MacDonald is recognised as being one of the aces of the New Zealand M.T.B, commanding officers.
The death occurred at Greymouth, this morning, after a long illness, of Mr. Archibald Green. A native of Coal Creek, where he was born 34 years ago, Mr. Green worked in the mines at Waiuta, contracting miners’ phthisis, and he had been in ill-health for the last eight years. For the last year he had been a patient in hospital. Besides his wife, two sons, and three daughters, he is survived by his mother, four sisters, Mrs. G. Smtih (Westport), Mrs. W. Pender (Auckland), Mrs. R. Beckman (Christchurch), and Miss M. Green (Christchurch), and eight brothers, George, Vivian, Leslie, and William (all overseas), Arthur and Ray (Huntly), Albert (Greymouth), and David (Totara Flat). The funeral will take place at Karoro Cemetery to-morrow afternoon following a service at the Salvation Army Citadel.
