REEFTON NOTES

REEFTON, Sept. 21

A public meeting was held at Reefion School of Mines on Monday night to consider the establishment of a branch of the Order of St. John in Reefton. The attendance was poor and it was resolved that a further meeting be held in two weeks time to consider the matter. Mr. W. J. Bolitho presided, and an officer of the Order gave a short talk on the work carried out in relation to first aid to the injured and Red Cross work. He was accorded a vote of thanks. Mr. W. Hempseed, County Chairman, presided at the monthly meeting of the Inangahua District Patriotic Committee. Present: Messrs W. J. Humphries, F. W. Archer, J. Patterson, J. Discaciati, J. K. Patterson, Vv. B. Auld, Secretary-Treasurer. The Westland District Patriotic Committee advised that the Inangahua District quota was still £5Bl 14/- short of the full total. Mr. Auld reported that August and September collections had to be added to this amount. The period lor the quota ended at October 30. Advice was received that the special set of 63 pictures supplied from England on loan showing the effects of the blitz in England during the Battle of Britain would be on the West Coast for display for two weeks during November, and would be available for Patriotic Committees to show to raise funds. It was resolved that application be made for loan of the pictures for display in Reefton for. not less than three days. The Treasurer (Mr. Auld) reported that collections for the month wore £133/9/10 made up as follows. Cronadun Committee £9/11/3; Reefton Committee £BB/11/-; Alexander Mine Employees 17/7, Mrs. King 10/-, Waiuta Committee £l2, Inangahua Junction Committee £24.
