BELLS TO RING AGAIN

FINAL LIFTING OF BAN. • LONDON, June 1. Wedding bells will ring again in Britain following the final and complete lifting of. the ban on church bells announced in the House of Commons by Mr. Herbert Morrison, Home Secretary. “Church bells may be rung for any purpose at any time, provided that their sound is not liable to be taken for a signal associated with air raid or gas attack,” he stated. The ringing of hand-bells or bells whose sound might be mistaken for a hand-bell, will continue to be prohibited, to prevent them from being mistaken for a hand-bell signal to be used as a warning of gas attack. Subject only to this nroviso, church bells can be rung on every occasion for which they were formerly used, on Sundays or week-days, for a wedding peal or a funeral knell.
