Late Len King: The late Len King, whose death was reported on Saturday, rode King of the Valley when he won the Greymouth Cup in 1918. This was the only visit King paid to the Coast as a horseman. He was a brother of the trainer, R. W. King. Retained for Season: Two jockeys' retainers have been registered for the present season. Mr. H. D. Greenwood has first call on A. Messervy and Mrs. G. A. Should be Good: A two-year-old filly by Chatsworth from Rulette is to race as Chalette. She is being trained at Ellerslie by R. S. Bagby for Mrs. A. J. McGovern, and is likely to come to hand early. Rulette is a sister to Supremacy and The Begum, dam of High Caste, Mazir, Stretto. and Arvakur.
Another Recruit: Tuatara, a smart sprinter when trained by L. G. Morris for Mr. T. A. Duncan, is now being prepared for jumping by L. Knapp at Awapuni. Many sprinters have made good when put to jumping and as Tuatara is built on solid lines, he should do well at the new branch. He is by Lord Quex from a Tuata mare. Sea Spi Injured: Sea Spi, winner of £1540 in stakes as a two-year-old last season, met with an accident at Awapuni when she took, fright, broke away from her attendant, and fell heavilv, injuring her head and neck. Lamb, Wellington, Sea Spi is a three-year-old filly by Phaleron Bay from Ruling Spi, and last season, had three wins and four seconds in seven starts.
