NEWSPAPER ADVTS.

LONDON, July 14. Mr Justice Singleton in awarding damages to newspaper managers in a libel action of the Leeds Assizes, said: Newspapers have the right to refuse an advertisement. It would be a deplorable thing if newspapers accepted every advertisement. They must, in the interests of their own good name and standing, exercise some care. If a newspaper proprietor has reason to doubt an advertiser s bona tides, surely it. is his right to say that he would rather not have his advertisements, and to refuse to accept them."' That is what the proprietors of these particular newspapers did, and I think they were right.”
