GREYMOUTH PLUNKET SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING

At' the monthly meeting of the Greymouth Branch of the Plunket Society, yesterday, Mrs F. M. Dennehy presided over the following members:—Mesdames F. A. Kitchingham, G. Blair. J. O’Brien, N. V. Lovell, J. Griffen, J. Smith, M. R. Faliey, J. A. Macaulay, H. Harvey, L. Leahy. G. Boucher, Taylor, K. McCarthy and Miss Anderson. The Moana representative (Mrs Taylor) reported on the difficulties experienced by her committee in the scattered area.—As it was realised that the nurse’s visits were necessary and appreciated in the area, the Greymouth Committee undertook to accept financial responsibility for the trips for a period of three months, the position then to be reviewed. The Chairman, Karitane Hospital Committee, wrote explaining that the deficit shown on the working of the Hospital for the year was due to increased overhead expenses and the 5 per cent, increase in salaries, and soliciting the help of branches in meeting this loss.—lt was decided to contribute £lO and to forward the appeal to the two sub-branches tor their consideration.

Mrs J. Smith handed in £lO/10/-, the result of the annual house-to-house collection in Blaketown.

Nurse Pearce’s report for June stated: — Headquarters: Visits to homes, old, 130, new 32—162. To Rooms: Babies 139, adults 167, preschool children 30—336. New cases, adults 19, babies 15. Outstations: Visits to homes, old, 164; new 24— 188. To Rooms, babies 151, adults 171, pre-school 23—345. New cases. 21. Total number of new babies 36. The attendances at the Rooms have been poor, more especially at Greymouth during the month, probably on account of the cold, wet weather. Mumps arc prevalent at Reefton, and a number of isolated cases of influenza, with gastric complications, have been notified in the town and country area. Miss Fitzgibbon, Nursing Adviser to the Council, visited the Branch, and her advice was helpful.
