FAT CATTLE ADVANCE

There wore reduced entries generally at the Addington sale, yesterday, when fat cattle values advanced sharply and vealers and baconers registered a rise. The best fat sheep maintained recent rales, but others eused. Store Sheep.—-A pen of 86 ewe lambs sold for 23/6, and one ot 40 mixed-sex lambs made 20/-. OI the ewes a line of 70 three-quarterbred two-tooths in lamb to Southdown and Dorset Horn rams, sold for 34/-. A pen of 121 sound-mouth halfoied ewes made 18/6 and others 13/-. Fifteen low-conditioned ewes, with lambs at foot, sold at 8/- all counted. Fat Lambs.—The highest price was 47/1 for a single lamb, and three sold at 46/10. Other sales were one at 46/1 and four at 45/10. The biggest line 51, sold from 33/10 to 44/2. Good lambs made from 34/- to 35/1, medium from 24/4 to 30/7. , Fat Sheep.—The bulk of the big lines came from southern districts, and some attractive sheep were penned. As in. recent weeks, prime wethers and ewes met with keen competition, and on the average sold
at up to late rates. Extra prime wethers, to 50/4. Prime wethers, 44/- to 47/1. Prime medium-weight wethers 39/- to 42/-. Ordinary wethers, 31/to 34/_. Extra prime ewes to 40/4. Prime ewes, 33/4 to 37/6. Prime me-dium-weight ewes, 27/- to 31/10. Ordinary ewes, 18/10 to 24/7. Fat Cattle.—A few truck lots were forward from southern provinces and the West Coast, but the class generally of the entry was indifferent. Extra prime heavy steers to £23/17/6. Prime heavy steers, £l9/5/- to £2l 10/-. Prime medium-weight steers, £l7 to £l9. Ordinary .steers, £l3 10/- to £l5/10/-. Light steers, to £l2/15/-. Extra prime heifers, to £lB/17/6. Prime heifers, £l3 to £l4 15/-. Medium heifers. £9 to £ll 15/-. Light heifers, to £B/15/-. Extra prime cows, to £l5/2/6. Prime cows, £lO/15/- to £l2/10/-. Medium cows, £7/15/- to £lO/10/-. Light and aged cows, £5 to £7/10/-.
Vealers: —Best runners. £lO/3/6: medium to good, £6/10/- to £8 18/6. Best vealers, to £7/3/6; average £5/10/- to £6/2/6. Large calves, to £3/18/6; medium to 57/6; small, down to 21/-. Store Cattle.—There were no straight lines forward, and only one pen of mixed coloured calves. Odd cows, including rejects from the beef market, comprised most of the entry, and for these there were buyers at recent levels. Dairy Cattle. —Second and third calvers made to £l2/10/-, medium £lO to £ll/10/-, others £7/15/- to £9/10/-; best heifers, to £l7, good £ll/10/- to £l3, medium £9 to £ll, backward and inferior £5/10/to £7/10/-.
Fat Pigs.—Light porkers, 40/6 to 47/6, medium 51/6 to 59/6, heavy £3 2/6 to £3/10/6: choppers, £4/2/6 to £9/1/-; light baconers £3/17/6 to '£4/7/6, medium £4/14/6 to £5/1/6, heavy £5/4/6 to £5/19/6. Store Pigs.—Weaners 10/- to 20/-; small stores, 22/- to 26/-, medium 28/- to 32/-, large up to '37/-.
