Mr. T. Bowes, of Runanga, has been appointed to represent the ancillary users on the Greymouth Emergency Transport Control Committee.
Rev. T. R. Page has been appointed secretary of the Greymouth Ministers’ Association, in succession to Mr. R. A. Blampied, who is leaving the district. Mr. Blampied has been secretary for the past five years and a-half.
Guests at Revington’s include: Mr. W. Sellars, Mr. W. Lane, Mr. K. Boon (Christchurch), Mr. W. F. Airey, Mr. K. Symmen (Wellington), Mr. H. E. Kissling, Mr. N. McConochie (Nelson).
The death occurred on Tuesday of Mrs Sarah Pratt, of the Salvation Army, wife of Adjutant George Pratt. Together with her husband, she had been stationed at Feilding, Ashburton, at several places on the West Coast, and latterly at Sydenham.
Pastor A. J. Templeton, of the Church of Christ, Ashburton, has accepted a call to replace Pastor R. A. Blampied as minister of the Church of Christ at Greymouth. Mr. Blamnied will leave for Nelson about the end of July, and-Mr. Templeton will take over his new ministry early in August.
' Lieu tenant-Commander P. Phipps and Mrs. Phipps are visiting the West Coast. They will leave on return to the North Island on Saturday. Lt. Commander Phipps, who was formerly on <he staff of the National Bank, Hokitika, was commander of the “Moa,” which was lost in combat with a Japanese submarine in the Solomons.
The marriage took place yesterday of Miss Eileen Gieseking, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Gieseking, Greymouth, and Mr. Robert Mclntyre, at the residence of the bride’s uncle, Mr. D. Hanrahan, High Street. Rev. Father A. Gregory performed the ceremony. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. W. Gieseking and her attendant' was Miss K. Gieseking. Mr. J. Horracks was best man.
The death occurred at St. Albans, Christchurch, yesterday, of Mrs. Alice Hopgood, a native of Southland, aged 66 years. Deceased resided in Greymouth with her husband for 30 years and removed to Christchurch only two years ago. Her husband, Mr. Harry Hopgood, was employed in the sawmilling industry in the Grey district. Deceased is survived by her husband, four daughters, Mesdames W. Cogswell (Darfield), P. Stephenson, J. Osmers and A. Hughes (Greymouth). and two sons. Albert (Christchurch) and Alaric (overseas with the N.Z.E.F.); also three brothers, Messrs. William Williams (Christchurch), George Williams (Dunedin), and James Williams (Australia), and two sisters. Mesdames Robbie (Invercargill) and Watt (Christchurch). The funeral will take place at Christchurch.
