KUMARA NOTES

The monthly meeting of the Kumara Women's Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs A. Fensom presided, and welcomed two new members. An invitation from the. Blaketown Institute was received m attend their birthday, but owing to petrol restrictions members could not accept. The Golden Thread talk was Piven by Mrs Reedy, who also reported on the South Westland Federation Council meeting at Hokitika. An interesting demonstration on rug making was given by the President. The box on rug-making from the A.C.E., Dunedin, was also on display, and the various samples were inspected. It was decided to send for a box on patchwok for the June meeting. The competitions for the afternoon resulted: —Best three parsnips: Mrs Fensom 1. Miss A. Hamer 2, Mrs Becker 3. Best bloom: Miss A. Hamer 1, Mrs Fensom 2, Mrs Reedy 3. Best buttonhole: Mrs Lakin 1, Mrs Fensom 2. Members handed in Air Force mittens, which they had knitted, for patriotic purposes. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Becker and Gibson.
