SIR T. BEECHAM

MARRIAGE TO PIANIST

NEW YORK, February 23. It was announced in. New York to-day that Sir Thomas Beecham, the conductor, who obtained a divorce at Boise, Idaho, last month, was married recently to Miss Betty Humby, the English pianist. Sir Thomas, who is in his 64th year, is conducting at the Metropolitan Opera House. He declined to-day to make any statement before meeting what he described as “the full Press” to-morrow.

He was granted a divorce on the grounds of “extreme cruelty.” He stated that he and his wife had not lived together since 1909. that she was extravagant and belittled his success.

Miss Betty Humby was married to the Rev. H. C. Thomas when he was private chaplain to the Bishop of London. They had one child. Recently the ’ marriage was dissolved in the United States, where she has often appeared at concerts with Sir Thomas. Her son, Jeremy, aged 11, is with her.
