DISPERSAL SALE

HASTINGS, May 20

Widespread interest was taken in the dispersal offering of the noted Gwayas Aberdeen Angus stud at Stortford Lodge to-day. Buyers vzere present from all parts of the Dominion. Fifty-three cows averaged more than 54gns. The top price lor calves was 70gns, the top price tor in-calf heifers 180gns, and for two-year-olds 125gns. The top price for bulls was 370gns, and for two-year-olds, 210gns. Mr E. St. C. Hayden, stud stock representative for Dalgety’s. after addressing the gathering, suddenly collaped and was taken to hospital.

GISBORNE, May 21. The New Zealand Petroleum. Company, Ltd., reports that the Devon No. '2 well, where drilling commenced 10 days ago, has been carried to a final depth" of 3032 feet, with no show of oil. or gas in the mud or the sand-drilling cuttings, but a thorough test of the porous zones is now being made. The Moonlight Goldfields wash-up at the company’s claim on May 20, was 30oz 3dwt for 248 hours’ sluicing. maorTgold Maori Gold return for the week ended May 21 was 39 ozs. 17 dwts. tor 124 hours’ work, 13,500 yards being treated. SNOWY RIVER. The Snowy River dredge return this week was 834 ounces in 128 hours from 28,000 yards. BLACKBALL CREEK. The Blackball Creek dredge return this week was 29 ounces in 111. hours.
