MONTHLY MEETING

HOKITIKA, May 21
The Westland Hospital Board met yesterday. Present: Mr. E. W. Heenan (chairman), Messrs T. P. O’Neil, J. A. Murdoch, T. W. Duff, W. A. Jamieson, G. Heinz and G. H. Chapman. Treasurer’s statement: Receipts £767/15/9. Expenditure £2,381/1/10. Accounts amounting to £2,660/19/3 were passed for payment. Mrs. Anderson, District Nurse at Bruce Bay, waited on the Board and put the position of the Bruce Bay District before the members. —The Chairman promised that full consideration would be given and he would 'communicate with Nurse Anderson as soon as a decision was made. The farm profit and loss account tor the year ended March 31 showed expenditure at £1319/19/2 and a proifit of £174/9/2. The farm manager’s I application tor an increase in wages twas granted as from May 10, the ini crease being 15/- per week. I Certain improvements at the [Maternity Home were authorised and | Dr. Arnott was given authority to procure instruments tor the main i institution.
The Matron’s report for April stated as follows: —Number of operations 29, massage and physiotherapy treatments 323, X-rays 61, screenings nil. Highest number of occupied beds 70: lowest 62; average tor the month 61. The Medical Superintendent’s report for April stated: Remaining in hospital. 31/3/43 66: admitted during April, 1943 65; total treated during April, 1943 131: remaining in hospital 30/4/43 58.
