Mr. E. Smellie returned to Christchurch, this morning.

Mr. W. Sharp (Levin) is visiting Greymouth.

Mrs. A. Aiderton left this morning, for Wellington.

Mr. and Mi's. E. Thompson left today on return to Christchurch.

Miss C. Walker left this morning for Christchurch.

Mrs. E. Cox left for Christchurch, this morning. A Washington message announced that two New Zealanders, Mr. George Duncan Ernest Fawcett and Mr. Richard Campbell had arrived for the United Nations’ food conference.

Mr. H. T. Ratana, M.P. for Western Maori electorate, who has been a patient in Patea Public Hospital for some time, has sufficiently recovered to be discharged.

Rev. R. L. A. Crampton, Dominion Youth Director of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, and Mrs. Crampton, Superintendent of the Shareholders, who have been visiting Greymouth, left for Nelson this, morning.

Guests at Revingtons include: Mr. J. Davy (Greymouth), Mr. R. M. Voss (Longburn), Mrs. P. Carlisle, Miss M. Carlisle, Lieut. Col. J. Wilson, Capt. A. Tylee, Mrs. and Miss Davidson (Christchurch).

The death occurred in Melbourne recently of Miss Rebecca Smith, a former resident of Greymouth. Deceased was the third daughter of the late Mr G. S. Smith, who was a partner in the drapery firm of Smith and Barkley, in Greymouth many years ago. She left Greymouth over 20 years ago.

Dr. D. A. Arnott, formerly senior surgeon at the Grey Hospital, was entertained at a farewell function by the nursing staff before his departure for Hokitika to assume his duties as Medical Superintendent of the Westland Hospital. Miss N. Moffatt, the Matron, thanked Dr. Arnott particularly for his work as an instructor and on behalf of the- nurses presented him with a fruit bowl.
