“COME TO BRITAIN”
TOURIST TRAFFIC PLANS
LONDON, February 27. A great Government-sponsored “Come'to Britain” campaign to capture post-war tourist traffic, and bring at least £500.000.000 a year to this country, is in active preparat’on. Considerable sums of money wd 1 be spent in popularising our resorts and “sights” in foreign countries. Hundreds of thousands of men and women who are getting expericnce of large-scale catering in the forces will play a big role. In the Army alone 100.000 cooks hove already been trained to the standard of first-class chels, and at least the same number in the other A “catei'ing staff college ’ at which the subtleties of hotel keeping will be taught is under consi c 1 -’’.nt ion. With the vast extension of holi---ffivs with nay, also planned., it. is hoped at the same time to bring improvement to our seaside resorts and holiday centres, many of which have been hard hit by the war. The Government Bill to control wages,.hours and conditions in the catering industry is intended as a first step in the new plan.
