Miss N. Horwell left, yesterday, for Christchurch, where she has joined the staff of the Presbyterian Orphanage.

Dr. C. R. Burns has been nominated a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, states a Press Association telegram from Wellington. Mr C. T. Tassell, Assistant Supervisor of the Greymouth Telegraph Office, who has been off duty for several weeks, yesterday entered the Grey Hospital for treatment.

Mr S. Ritchie, of Christchurch, and Mr C. L. Hunter, of Auckland, have been appointed wages commissioners under the recent amendment to the Economic Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, 1942.—P.A. Mr. G. J. Bertinshaw, Chief Engineer of Railways, and Mr. P. H. Morey, District Engineer, arrived in Greymouth last evening and later proceeded to Westport.

Miss L. A. Bowes, of the clerical staff of the Railwavs Department at Greymouth, has tendered her resignation, to take effect as from tomorrow, and will take up a position on the nursing staff of- the Grey Hospital.

Squadron Leader Allan Crighton, R.N.Z.A.F., commanding Officer of the first New Zealand fighter squadron to be despatched to the Pacific from New Zealand, who has been reported missing, believed killed, was formerly a pilot for Cook Strait Airways and was well known on the West Coast as a result of his association with that company.

A London cablegram stated that the newly-appointed New Zealand Minister, Majoi 1 Skinner, although he had been in the thick of much fighting and had escaped serious hurt, celebrated his introduction to the London black-out by falling down a step and badly twisting his ankle. He starts a talking tour at Leeds on April 7, and later speaks in Scotland.

Pilot Officer James B. Paton, R.N.Z.A.F., who has been reported slightly injured on active service, is a son of Mrs. Paton, and the late Mr. J. B. Paton, of Wellington, who formerly resided in Greymouth. Pilot Officer Paton was in the Army for some time, but later joined the Air Force and was trained in New Zealand and later in Canada under the Empire scheme.

Reddell, minister of the Greymouth Baptist Church, who has accepted an appointment at Lyall Bay, Wellington, leaves, this evening, for the north.’Mrs. Reddell left, yesterday, for Nelson. They were tendered a farewell by the Church on Wednesday evening, when Mr. A. J. Gilberthorpe presided over a representative attendance. Rev. P. Kirkham spoke on behalf of the Ministers’ Association and Mr. W. Lambert, of Christchurch, on behalf of the Canterbury Baptist Auxiliary. Mr. W. Wright, on behalf of members, presented Mr. Reddell with an envelope of notes, Mrs. W. Mason handed Mrs. Reddell a wall mirror, Miss V. Rudd, on behalf of the Girls’ Bible Class, presented her with a piece of crockery, and Mr. W. Rosewall, on behalf of the Boys’ Bible Class, presented Mr. Reddell with a framed photograph of the class.
