Newcomer. —F. Trilford intends racing a team on the West Coast at Easter. Master Dingle, formerly one of his team is now in A. McMullin’s stable. Master Dingle is well forward.
Pacer Sold: Mr. W. J. Smith, of Upper Riccarton, has sold to Mr. R. Darroch, of Auckland, 'a four-year-old pacer by U. Scott from Sarella. The young pacer, a brother to Bill Scott, will go into G. Mitchell’s stable at Epsom.
Riding at Ellerslie: A. E. Ellis intends to ride at Ellerslie at Easter, his mounts including Olga’s Pal in the Champagne Stakes, and Lord Chancellor in the Great. Northern St. Leger. Ellis will return to ride Royal Lancer in the Great Autumn Handicap.
Turned Out: The two-year-old Trueway, brother to Serenata and Representative, has been turned out. He is not built on as big lines as his relatives, and the long Winter spell should give him a chance to furnish. His trainer, F. D. Jones, now has only Scottish Dale and Burberry in work, and they are to race at Washdyke next week.
Parvati: There was a lot of money for Mr. J. A. Hennah’s maiden, Parvati, in the apprentices’ race at Hastings on Saturday, but she ran poorly. Parvati is well bred, being by Bulandshar from Fondle, a half-sister to Cuddle and Padishah, but so far her form has not been up to her breeding. Ivar, also owned by Mr. Hennah, paid good double figures when he won the open sprint.
Further Purchase: Mr. P. Louis, of Wellington, added another purchase hist week to Master Dash and Flying Hawk. This was Sandy Cape, a six-year-old gelding by Ctipe Horn from a Gazeley mare, which carried his colours in the Poukawa Maiden at Hastings. Sandy Cape showed pace out in front for a while but finished only sixth. It was reported that Mr. Louis also made an offer for Sir Bradbury.,
Silver Sox: Prior to his win on Saturday Silver Sox ran four seconds and a third in eight starts. He is a chestnut gelding by Salmagundi —Silver Sail, by Paper Money—Tea Kettle, by Tea Tray—Nuit, by Absurd—Afterglow, by Demosthenes from Sunglow, a sister to Boniform and half-sister to Martian. Silver Sox is bred to do much better than anything he has so far accomplished.
Waimate Winners:. R.oyal Rae is a iour-year-old by Paper Money— Royal Flower, by Kilbroney from Lady Violet, the dam of Ark Royal. Socks is a four-year-old filly by Paper Money—Mavagosa, by Woodend— Rose Lady, by Rose Noble —lied Charm, by Charlemagne 11. Last season Socks ran two seconds and a third in eight starts.
Crispin: At Awapuni on the preceding Saturday Crispin . displayed his customary early brilliance only to fail to pull out anything extra over the final furlong. He returned to a six-furlong journey at Hastings to win the Autumn Hack Handicap in good style. Crispin is. engaged over six furlongs at Hastings again to-morrow.
Unbeaten. —Tea for Two, unbeaten in her two races, has been nominated for hack races at Riverton. With the benefit of a race on the first day she should be a difficult proposition in the mile Southern Champion Hack Handicap. The Salmagundi-Tea Party filly,’ which is trained, by A. McKay at Riverton for Mr. E. Russell, of Invercargill, won over a mile at the Southland meeting early in January.
Champions: The fact that both Haughty and Gold Bar came within a fraction or two of _ crossing the two-minute line in their flying mile shows that the best in New Zealand can be rated with the best in the United States. The sulky in use m New Zealand is considered two seconds slower to the mile compared with the close-hitch sulky in general use in the United States. The Aduington track is about two seconds slower than the mile _ circuits in America. Under American conditions it is safe to assume that both Haughty and Gold Bar stepped the equivalent of 1.58 or better in their match on Saturday.—“ Sentinel” m the “Otago Daily Times.”
