APPEAL BOARD’S DECISIONS
[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —I have noticed in the correspondence columns of various newspapers protests against the decisions given by some Appeal Boards. May 1 quote a case which has come under my notice and which deserves special mention.
We have in our district two grocery stores. One is managed by. a man and his wife with the assistance of a married son and daughter-in-law, four in all. The other is managed by a man with what little assistance he can get from his wife,.who has the care of their’ five young children. In the first case the assistant was appealed for, and even though there were three others to manage the store, this man’s appeal was adjourned sine die.’ In the second case, this man manages his business practically on his own yet his appeal was unsuccessful, he being told by the Appeal Board, he would have to get a manager, or dispose of his business. Surely this man’s appeal of undue hardship was genuine, and should have been upheld. Is this fair that this man should have to dispose of his business and go away to fight, leaving his wife and five young children to fend for themselves, yet another can stay at home, and help others to run a small country store? Yours etc. DISGUSTED.
