Mr H. Yeadon, Cobden, left yesterday. by plane, for Wellington, where he will reside.
A British Official Wireless message stated that Air Chief Marshal Dowding has been placed on the retired list at his own request.
A London cablegram stated that the death had occurred of Mr Alfred Luscombc, “Father” of Lloyds, aged 91 years.
It is officially announced at Brussels that the wife of King Leopold gave birth to a son on Saturday. He will be named Alexander Emmanuel, Henry, Albert, Maria, Leopold.
Mr J. G. Inglis, of High Street, who sustained severe injuries in a street accident on Friday, is reported by the- Hospital authorities to have improved slightly, but he is still on the seriously-ill list.
Commander Cabanier. Croix de Guerre, D. 5.0., Chief of Staff for the High Commissioner for Fighting France in the Pacific, has arrived in New Zealand from Noumea. He called yesterday on the Acting-Prime Minister (Mr. Sullivan). He will leave later for Auckland.—P.A
Rev. Ernest Nichols, who has been at Wanganui for 11 years, has accepted a call to the Colombo Street Baptist Church, Christchurch. Rew W. N. Flett, who has been minister of the Ashburton Baptist Church for the last two years, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Baptist Church at Ingestre Street, Wanganui.

An old resident of Hokitika, Mrs Marie S. A. Smith, died at her home on Saturday at- the ;jge ol 76. A native of Germany, Mrs Smith went to Hokitika at a very early age with her parents, subsequently being married to Mr William. Smith, who died a few years ago. She leaves a family of two daughters, Mrs W. H. Griffiths, of Levin, and Mrs Gardyne, of Hokitika, and one son, Mr Thomas Jeremiah Smith, of Hokitika. Mr W Wieblitz, of Hokitika, and Mr F. Wieblitz, of Reefton, are brothers.
