RUNANGA NOTES

There was a good attendance at Thursday evening’s meeting of the Runanga Debating Club, Mr, R. Bowman presiding. Two debates were held, the first, “That in view of the fact that New Zealand’s export trade in primary produce will be severely reduced after the war, immediate steps should be taken to build up secondary industries.” Affirmative: Messrs S. Kennedy, W. Patterson, and H. Webb. Negative: Messrs R. Bowman, R. McDonald and S. Braithwaite. The second debate was entitled “After the war the United States of America and the British Empire should amalgamate to form a great Commonwealth of Natons.” Affirm.: Messrs A. Keown, F. Baxendale, and L. O’Loughlin. Neg.: Messrs Rob. McTaggart, J. Richmond and Ron. McTaggart. Criticisms were given by the leader, Mr. W. Wick.
