..A Fine Race: Heidelberg, as a novice hurdler, ran a fine race in the Otago Hurdles. He hooked a couple of hurdles, and this cost him a good chance of winning.
Back Again: The Solicitor-General filly Clarice, 'who won three races in succession, has again been taken up by L. E. George at Hawera. She was accompanied by her two-year-old half-brother, who is by Broiefort.
Improving: Classic, who ran third in the Orakei Hurdles at Ellerslie, should not be long in winning. He is stated to be very well, and as he can handle heavy going he pay expenses if brought down for the Wellington Meeting.
A Likely Stayer: Marquee won the Aidworth Handicap at Wingatui in a manner suggesting that extra distance would not trouble him. He is a rising five-year-old by Nigger Min-strel-Cough, by Sutala-Yawn, by Cooltrim-Quietest, by Grafton-Slum-bcr, by Trentan-Nightmare, and so belongs to a staying line.
Name Claimed: Destiny is the name claimed for the BulandsharKillara youngster purchased by Mr L. P. Coffey, of Greymouth, at the last yearling sales. The colt has been gelded, and is being educated by C. G. Humphries. This trainer took over the training of Waitoru after the Dunedin meeting on Saturday.
Fifth in Succession: For the fifth year in succession, Jack Potts heads the list of winning sires with £20,854, while second is Wrack (£12,325), who. was sent to Tasmania and died there. Grattan Loyal, one of the younger importations, is next, with £10,742, followed by Rey de Oro £8.125, Nelson Derby £6,009, Quite Sure £4907, Man o’ War £4586, U. Scott £4361, and Maxegin £3833.
Additions: C. J. Walsh has three additions to his team at Omoto—a two-year-old by Myosotis from Lady Ball, and two'other youngsters, one by Nightly and the other by Leighon. The two latter are owned in the North. Island, and the Myosotis youngster is owned by Mr A. J. Tutton, the- owner of Synthetic. The lastnamed is now being trained by J. McLean. Improvident has been sent bad: to his owner, and Peacock, who won a number of races while trained by Walsh, is now being used as a hack at Kumara.
Won Comfortably: Yogi decisively won the Manawatu Winter Cup last Saturday. Sir Cameron, Atreus, Minority, Amigo, Myarion, Yogi, The Monarch, and Old Bill was the order after passing the half-mile. Atreus ran past Sir Cameron as soon as they entered the straight but Yogi forged to the front at the last furlong and won going away by a comfortable margin from Old Bill and Centrepoise, who both came on from the back with telling finishing runs. Old Bill headed Centrepoise on the post and Atreus (third choice) was another head away. Minority, Sir Cameron, Winsome Lu, The Monarch, and Erndale were next.
