TWICE HOLED IN ONE

N.S.W. WOMAN’S RECORD

SYDNEY, May 22

Mrs. W. F. Driver is the first golf associate to secure two holes in one in a round. She achieved it yesterday at Balgowlah—at the third (202yds) and at the eighth (88yds). Harry Vardon, prince of all golfers, played for more than 50 years, won six" British Open championships, and an American Open, yet only once holed in one. Mrs. Driver was attracted to the game only three years ago. She was possibly the most composed player on the course after her extraordinary effort.

“They were just a couple of lucky flukes,” she said last night. “When I biit my tee shot at the third on to the green, a couple of associates then leaving the green waved their arms. I thought then I must be close enough to secure a birdie. But the ball was in the hole. Five holes later my partner exclaimed, ‘She’s done it"again.’ She was really more excited than I-was.”

The records show that. 33 years ago R. T. Armstrong performed the same feat on a Melbourne course. W. Reddrop performed the feat in 1937, also in Melbourne. There have been at least 10 occasions when two holes in one in the one round have been secured in other parts of the world.
