PUBLISHERS & AUTHORS FINED LONDON, May 19. Jarrolds, London, Limited, publishers, and Rene Raymond, whose pen name is James Hadley Chase, were each fined £lOO at the Old Bailey for publishing an obscene book, “Miss Callaghan Comes to Grief.” Raymond, who is an R.A.F. officer, was ordered to be detained until the fine is paid. Wells Gardner, Darton and Company Limited, publishers, and Harold Ernest Kelly, author, were each fined £lOO for publishing the obscene books, “Ptoad Floozie” and “Lady Don’t Turn Over.” Kelly is to be kept in custody until his fine is paid. A detective said that the police in future would seize all books of this type, wherever found. -
