The War Manpower Commission in the United States says that men in the armed forces of the United States will number six to seven millions by the end of 1943, and eventually ten million.

The Commission estimates that twenty million workers will be needed in war production and transportation by 1944, and twelve million men or women will be needed to harvest the 1943 crops.

CHICAGO’S RESOLUTION

WELLINGTON, June 19

The following message has been received by the Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) from the New Zealand Minister to Washington (Mr. Nash): “With the hope it might inspire the people of New Zealand, the Mayor of Chicago has asked me to send you the following message: ‘Chicago’s United Nations parade for victory that started at 10 a.m. on Sunday ended at 1.20 a.m. on Monday, thus concluding a most inspiring demonstration of loyalty to the United Nations’ war effort the people of this country have ever seen. More than 1,500,000 men and women of all races, colours, and creeds, including a large group of our citizens whose ancestry stems "from your land, participated or witnessed the demonstration to show the world that the people of this section of the United States are all out for victory and are determined to do their utmost to bring the swift and complete defeat of Hitler and the Axis Powers.”

Mr. Fraser has replied asking Mr. Nash to convey thanks to the Mayor of Chicago for the message, adding that the unity of the Allies and the justness of their cause and the sincerity of their purpose must defeat Hitler and the Axis Powers and guarantee to all peoples liberty and their own way of life.
