RUNANGA NOTES

[our own correspondent.] A special meeting of the Runanga Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. Kennedy) presiding. Present were Crs. S. O'Neil, C. Barrow, A. Sparks and A. Auld. Cr. W. Duggan wrote resigning his seat on the Council, in view of his impending departure from Ruranga. It was decided that the resignation be received with regret, and that a letter of appreciation be sent to Cr. Duggan for his services to the Borough, and wishing him success in the future. Mr. Duggan is to take a mining position in the North Island. From four applications, Mr. Bertacco was appointed to the outside staff of the Council. Westland Land Board wrote, asking the Council’s approval to the closing of portion of Plunket Street, which would thereby make available 17 building sections. The reauest was granted. Two debates occupied the evening at the weekly meeting of. the Runanga Debating Club last evening. The first was that “After the present
