APPOINTMENTS & PROMOTIONS.
WELLINGTON, June 3. The following appointments and promotions, of officers of the New Zealand Military Forces are gazetted;.—
Captain (Temporary Major) J. H. Sharp, N.Z.S.C., is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel, and is appointed Director of Supplies and Transport, Army Headquarters, and Officer Commanding the New Zealand Army Service Corps. Major K. N. Todd, 2nd N.Z.E.F., is appointed Assistant-Director of Supplies and Transport, and Commander of the Army Service Corps, Southern Military District, and is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Captain W. R. Pigou, 2nd N.Z.E.F., is appointed Chief Instructor of the Armoured Fighting Vehicles School, with promotion to the temporary rank of major. Lieutenant-Colonel A. H. W. Evenden and Lieutenant-Colonel H. G. Wilding, D. 5.0., have each been appointed to command a heavy regiment, New Zealand Artillery. Lieutenant-Colonel J. H. ,Irving 2nd N.Z.E.F., is appointed an area commander in the North Island.
Captain F. N. Hornibrook is appointed to command the recentlyformed Bomb Disposal Group, and is granted the temporary rank of major.
Major C. A. Blazey is appointed Assistant-Director of Supplies and Transport, and commander of the New Zealand Army Service Corps, Central Military District, and is granted the temporary rank of lieu-tenant-colonel. A similar appointment, also carrying the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel, is granted to Major J. D. Swan, New Zealand Army Service Corps. Major R. F. Wilson, Deputy-As-sistant Director of Medical Services, Army Headquarters is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Major I. F. Faris is to be a lieu-tenant-colonel (temporary), while holding the appointment of senior medical officer in a North Island area.
Major D. G. Wallace, formerly stationed at a South Island military camp, is appointed Deputy-Assistant-Diector of Medical Services, Army Headquarters, and is granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-col-onel. * LT.-GENERAL FREYBERG. WELLINGTON, June 3. Major-General Sir Bernard Freyberg has been granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-general. Announcing this, the Minister for
Defence (Mr. Jones), said that this further promotion was yet another well-deserved honour for a soldier whose whole career had been marked by fearless courage and distinguished leadership, and who had through his command of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in the Middle East during this war inspired the Dominion troops overseas to continue and add to the fine record of the New Zealand forces in the last war.
