BRITISH ARMY
“HATE" TRAINING TO STOP
LONDON, May 23. Army “hate training” is being stopped by Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Paget, Commander-in-Chiei of the Home- Forces. This was revealed in a letter from General Paget read to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland by the Moderator (Dr. J. H. Cockburn), who recently wrote to> the War Office protesting against such training. ' General Paget stated that he was writing to all Army commanders against the use of strong language, particularly in battle schools, as a means of urging students to greatei efforts; and also against attempts to produce hate during training. “Such an attitude is foreign to the British temperament,” said General Paget, and “officers and non-commis-sioned officers must be made to realise the difference between the building up of artificial hate and the building up of the true offensive spirit, combined with the will-power which will not recognise defeat."
