MELBOURNE MURDERS

U.S.A. SOLDIER ARRESTED

MELBOURNE, May 24. Following the investigation of the murders, a soldier was taken into custody. He is an American. He .will probably be tried by court-mar-tial for the murder of two of the women. The victims mentioned are Mrs Pauline Thompson, aged 32; and Miss Gladys Hosking, aged 41. The courtmartial will be composed of United States Army officers. The Victorian Police Chief states that no charge has yet been laid against the soldier taken into custody, as investigations are still proceeding in close co-operation with the American Army authorities.
