Working all day yesterday, the members of the Runanga Fire Brigade completed the erection of the bell tower, and hoisted the bell into position. The bell will also be used as a warning bell in case of emergency. The emergency hospital organisation held a try-out on Saturday afternoon, and despite the bad weather, the trial was carried through successlully. Two rooms at the school were equipped as wards, and another as a theatre. Dr. T. M. Ongley had with him a staff of nurses, and patients were conveyed to the hospital and given treatment. During the trial the main street was closed to traffic. The fourteenth annual meeting of the Runanga Sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held on Thursday, the following members being present: Mesdames Timlin, Flood, Hall, Grogan, Martin, Reid, Barker, Howard and Outhwaite. Mrs. Timlin welcomed the Mayor, Mr. E. Kennedy, and asked him to preside. After the reading of the annual report and balance sheet and nurse’s report, the election of officers took place, resulting as follows: President, Mrs. Timlin; vicepresidents, Mesdames Martin and Barker; trustees, Mesdames Martin and Barker: secretary, Mrs. Outhwaite; treasurer. Mrs. Flood.
