AUSTRALIA

FOOD STORES. SYDNEY, May 22. Two million pounds worth of essential foodstuffs have now been distributed through nine hundred towns in all parts of Australia. This is announced by an official of the Emergency Food Supplies Control. This is part of the Commonwealth’s decentralised food plan to offset war risks. These supplies are additional to huge stocks that are being carried to country centres to meet possible evacuation needs. The Government is also opening bulk stores at keypoints. Each of these stores will hold £60,000 worth of essential foods.
