FATAL ACCIDENT

AT HOKITIKA SAWMILL. HOKITIKA. May 12. When the docking saw which he was working at the Kanieri-Hokitika Sawmilling Company’s mill, came down on him yesterday afternoon, John Desmond Keenan, 18, single, received injuries from the effects of which he died at the Westland Hospital early this morning. Keenan had been engaged on the saw for about a week. The accident occurred at 1.30 p.m., Keenan’s left leg being almost severed, and his left arm also being injured. One theory is that the saw became jammed, and that he was endeavouring to get it ■free again. A fellow-worker, Mr. J. Coulson, rendered first aid, and Keenan was removed to the hospital, but blood transfusions failed to save his life. Deceased was a' son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Keenan, of Rimu.
