MANY LEAVE SYDNEY

EXODUS TO SAFE AREAS

SYDNEY, Feb. 12.

It is learned from official sources that a steady stream of evacuees, both children and adults, is flowing from Sydney to the country. Figures supplied by the Railway Department to the evacuation section of the Social Services Department show that 3328 children were evacuated by rail between January 2 and January 31. It js pointed out that children going to the country are always accompanied by one adult, and sometimes by two. In addition, between 100 and 200 persons make inquiries every day at tbe evacuation section of the Social Services Department. They include expectant mothers, cripples, and pensioners.

Representatives of various organisations have visited the department and made offers of co-operation in any evacuation plans.
