PATRIOTIC APPEAL

Mr. H. W. Shove, the Y.M.C.A. commissioner in Egypt says “The Maori canteen vehicle provided by the Patriotic Fund is a great job—congratulations.—lt is the best job I have ever driven.” This canteen takes comforts to the Maoris up in the front lines. The Greymouth quota for this fund is £4,000 and only £l,OOO has come to hand. Have you done your bit? If every one plays the game. Greymouth will reach its objective. Hand in your subscription now and play your part. The least we, at home can do, is to provide some comforts for the men out there. They have told of their gratitude through hundreds of letters received here in this town. These are available for you to read. Our soldiers, sailors, and airmen need our backing.

With regard to the Christmas Day Appeal for funds, the total raised in New Zealand was £15,560/6/1. The expenses incurred were £BBO, and the net balance has been distributed to eleven Councils, totalling £14,680 /6/1. The Westland Provincial contributions were: Greymouth, £39 10/5; Hokitika, £3O/3/5; Reefton, £2l/12/3; Ross, £2O/7/1; Waiuta, £5/13/3; Runanga, £4/11/4; K.umara, £4/3/-; Blackball, £3/10/6; Brunnerton, £2/10/-; Otira, 2/-; total, £132/6/3.
