Mrs Reedy presided over a large attendance at The February meeting of the Kumara W.I. The roll-call was “My Favourite Motto. ' The Golden Thread talk was given by Mrs Hunter. Nominations were received for the new committee. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Spiers for her donation of toys to the Christmas party. A novel sugar-bag mat, made by Mrs Williamson, was exhibited by Mrs Fensom (sen.). The competition winners were:—Best bloom: Mrs Little 1, Mrs Fahey 2, Mrs Reedy 3. Fudge: Miss Hamer 1, Mrs Fensom 2, Mrs Reedy 3. During the social half-

hour an animal paper competition was won by Mrs Fahey. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs McNab and Miss Gibson. On Saturday, members and their children held a picnic near Gilbert’s mill. One of the largest send-offs seen in Kumara for a long time was tendered to Mr and Mrs Rooney. Mr Rooney is being transferred from the Kumara Post Office to the Hokitika Post Office. The Mayor presided. He spoke of the loss to the community through the departure of Mr and Mrs Rooney, and wished them every success in their new home. Other speakers were: Rev. Father Healy, Rev. Mr Taylor, Messrs Hamer, Gilbert, McFarlane, Murphy, Birss., E. Rose and G. McEnaney.
