TWO MILLION MEN NEEDED
NEW YORK, January 11. The Washington correspondent of the “Christian Science Monitor ’ states that the United States will require 2,000,000 men for the new Air Force as envisaged by President Roosevelt, compared with 1,000,000 men enlisted in the Luftwaffe. , , , Also, the President’s proposed tanx force will need 1,000,000 experts. The correspondent estimates that the total U.S. armed forces by the end of 1943 will be 5,000,000 to 7,000,000. It is expected that the U.S.A, will retain for its own use roughly halt oi the contemplated production of 145.000 warplanes during the next two years, and also half the tank production of 120,000. FAST CRUISER COMPLETED. NEW YORK, January 11. The 6,000-ton cruiser San Diego was commissioned at Boston six months ahead of schedule. . The vessel is one of the fastest built for the Navy, and is capable of more than 35 knots.
A total of 55,888 men enlisted in the U.S. Navy between December 7 and January 7. This was the largest monthly figure in the history ot the Navy More than 18,000 men joined the Marines. . The Department of Commerce believes that President Roosevelt s Budget will need a contribution of Louu dollars each year from each American family, or 420 dollars from each American man, woman, and child. The total amount of the Budget is the equivalent of the value of all products turned out by American factor - ies in 1939.
