HAIR NEEDED FOR WAR.
MELBOURNE, January 22. Because genuine blonde and red hair are valuable for the manufacture of precision instruments, the Australian Comforts Fund in Melbourne.is seeking modern prototypes of Victor Hugo’s Fantine, who disposed of her hair for equally practical purposes—to raise money for food. Officers of the fund to-day made a special appeal to women who have hoarded their schoolgirl pigtails. Brown and black hair are also sought. It will be sold at the fund’s waste products depot.
