R.A.F. OFFENSIVE
TARGETS IN RHINELAND
RUGBY, February 15
Mannheim and other objectives in the Rhineland were attacked last night by aircraft of the Bomber Command, states an Air Ministry communique. The docks at Le Havre, Dunkirk, and Ostend were also bombed. j Fighter Command aircraft attacked enemy aerodromes in occupied terriOne aircraft of the Bomber Command is missing from these operations. An aircraft of the Coastal Command is missing from patrol yesterday. SLIGHT ACTIVITY IN BRITAIN. RUGBY, February 15. Last night, while the R.A.F. were over enemy territory again, air activity over Britain was officially described as slight, and confined to coastal areas. Bombs were dropped, causing no casualties and little damage. RAIDS ON MALTA. RUGBY, February 15.
An Agency message from Malta says that enemy air activity was on a reduced scale during Saturday. The final report regarding Friday’s raid revealed that the anti-aircraft defences shot down into the sea three enemy aircraft—a JUBB bomber, a JU 87 dive-bomber, and an MEIO9 fighter. A JUBB was probably destroyed. It was last seen with the engine on fire. D.F.C. FOR OBSERVER. LONDON, February 13. The D.F.C. was awarded to Pilot Officer William Adino Neweham. The citation stated: “As an, air observer he displayed exceptional keenness and enthusiasm during an operational tour. He has participated in attacks on targets which included Cologne, Berlin, Kiel, Hamburg, and Stettin. Though many sorties in which he has taken part have been of a difficult and hazardous na'ture, he has showed himself a capable and. reliable observer.”
