Her dam, Olive Huon, was got by Wildwood Jr. —Alice Huon bv Franz (brother to Fritz) —Elsa Huon by Huon Jr.—Whisp by Vaucleve. Unusually Impressive: Hearth's reputation did not suffer by her narrow defeat in the Craven Plate. She did not get too good a run in the early stages, and naif a mile from home she was among the rear division many lengths behind the leaders. Her finishing run was unusually impressive. Good Three-Year-Oid: Sing Sing scored her fourth win on end in her four starts, when she won the Benmore Handicap at Winton, after a thrilling struggle m the straight, witn her stable-mate, Irish Ruler. It was a splendid performance for a three-year-old filly, under the steadier ol 9.3. Versatile: Sally Lunn, under her light weight, easily ran out the nine furlongs in the Halswell Handicap at Motukarara, and apparently is as versatile as her half-sister Peony Rose, who won races from live furlongs to ten. She has also proved her capacity on soft and hard going, and she should not be long recouping Mrs Levin for the £7OO paid for her. A Poor Race: Night Pal, who was omitted from the telegraphed list of acceptors for the Winton Cup, was one of the starters on Saturday, but a southern writer states that he ran a bad race. Anglo Irish won the race in convincing style, alter leading into the straight. Spanish Lad, the third horse, according to the same writer, might have played a bigger part in the finish had he been more vigorously ridden in the run home. GORE R.C. FIELDS. GORE, February 9. The proposed programme for the Westland Trotting Club's meeting to be held at Greymouth on March 21, includes: —Two maiden trotters' races of 121 furlongs ;two saces fos maiden pacers, one of 121 furlongs and the ether of two miles: two races, one over 101 furlongs, and the other over 121 furlongs, for horses assessed at 3.1” and 3.39 respectively. The principal event will be the Westland Handicap of £2OO. over 121 furlongs, for horses assessed at 3.32. and a mile race for the corresponding class of horses, completes the card.
